Anthropic launches Claude Opus 4.6 with 1M token context window beta and Microsoft Office integration
Anthropic released Claude Opus 4.6 on February 5. The model ships with a 1 million token context window in beta — enough to process entire large codebases or document libraries in a single session. Simultaneously, Opus 4.6 was deployed as an add-in inside Microsoft PowerPoint and Excel, making it the first Claude model available natively within Office applications. The model includes improved coding and multi-step reasoning capabilities.
The Microsoft Office integration is the more significant commercial move here. Embedding Claude inside PowerPoint and Excel puts it in front of hundreds of millions of enterprise users who will never visit claude.ai — the same distribution logic that made Copilot a forced-choice for many organizations. The 1M context beta is a direct counter to Google's Gemini 2.5 Pro, which has led on context window size. At 1M tokens, Anthropic is now competitive in the long-context tier that matters most for enterprise document processing workflows.
